Q.        What is Crestview Winterguard?

A.       Winterguard combines the equipment and body techniques learned in marching band colorguard with dance, drama, and theatre on a gym floor to recorded music.  It provides an opportunity for performers who have developed their skills to an advanced level, to be spotlighted in a competitive arena and to excel in our art form.

Q.        Where does the unit perform?

A.       Crestview Winterguard performs in Gulf Coast Colorguard Circuit competitions in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.  The guard attends WGI Regional competitions in Pensacola, Atlanta, and Tampa.  The season concludes at WGI Championships in Ohio.  Click on the schedule link to view our entire 2007 schedule.

Q.        Who can participate?

A.      Any member of the fall colorguard who is selected by audition, meets the financial requirements, and who continues to maintain consistent attendance and development of performance skills.  Please view and print the questionnaire here.  We are also looking for a few good men to join us as a member of the floor crew.  You may click here for the information and permission form.

Q.        How much time is involved?

A.       Members can expect to rehearse two nights per school week and on Saturdays.  The season begins on November 1 and ends at World Championships in Ohio in mid-April.  There are also mandatory rehearsals during Christmas and Spring Breaks and on holidays in January and February.

Q.        Do performing members pay any fees?

A        Performers pay a fee that helps cover the travel and production costs (instruction, costumes, flags, practice outfits, gloves, entry fees, etc.).  This fee can be paid for through fund-raising opportunities, developed by the parent boosters. Please view the orientation packet here.

Q.        How can a parent get involved?

A.       Parents will be involved in costume maintenance, sewing flags, painting, working at the contest we host, driving in caravans, phone/email chain, and serving as a chaperone.

Q.        How can a parent or supporter find out more about Crestview Winterguard?

A.       Come to our informational meeting in the Crestview High School Bandroom.  Dates will be posted on the web site @ www.crestviewwinterguard.com.
